Christmas Trading Discipline

Mince Pies, Movies, and… Bad Trades?

Ah, Christmas… the time of year for family, food, brisk walks in the snow, and festive movies on repeat. (Trading Places of course…)

And for many traders, it’s a time when you have more opportunity than usual to trade…

Sneaking a glance at the markets on your phone, itching to get into your office to grab a few pips.

But, watch out…

CAUTION

If you’re thinking about trading between Christmas movies and mince pies, ask yourself this:

Am I trading with intention, or just taking a punt? Hoping to bank a few quid.

Because there’s a big difference.

When you trade half-heartedly:

  • You skip the prep.
  • You take setups that aren’t in your plan.
  • And you’re more likely to chase losses or revenge trade.

But when you trade with focus, even during Christmas week you:

  • Stick to your edge, no matter how tempting that “quick win” looks.
  • Prepare as if it’s any other trading day.
  • Only take trades that you’d proudly journal later.

So here’s something to consider:

If you’re not ready to give the markets 100% of your attention, don’t trade.

Enjoy the downtime instead.

The market will still be there after the New Year, far better to come back refreshed than frustrated at an unnecessary loss.

But if you do decide to trade?

Great, there’s opportunity out there right now. But make it count.

Treat it like any other trading day, not a quick punt between bites of turkey.

Do the prep, assess the risk, and trade the process.
