A Neat ChatGPT Tip for Traders

How Walking and Talking to AI Can Help Your Trading

Ever find yourself staring at the charts, watching every tick, but deep down knowing… you need to step away?

Yep, we’ve all done it.

There’s this idea in trading that we need to constantly be at the screen, obsessing over every market move.

But sometimes, the best thing we can do is walk away, literally.

The markets are open, your trade is on, but you’ve got to get out of your own head.

That’s the time to grab your shoes and take a walk.

Sometimes you just need that fresh air and nature to do a quick refresh and reset.

And that’s cool, but if you fancy a bit of multi-tasking, here’s a neat trick…

The ChatGPT App

While I’m walking, I’ll sometimes open up my phone, fire up the ChatGPT app, and talk through things.

There’s been a nice update recently where you can talk to the app and have a pretty fluid ‘conversation’.

(Alright, I appreciate I’m a bit of a d*ck walking around my local lake talking to AI… I don’t always do it!)

But it can really help you workshop through ideas and declutter your thoughts.

E.g.

  • Help me think through the bear case for xxx
  • How can I become more mentally calm with big-size trades?
  • You are Brett Steenbarger: Give me 5 quick affirmations to use before the bell
  • How can I create a better screening process?
  • I’m struggling with knowing when to hold a trade or take profits, help me come up with some filters for this.

You get the idea.

The sky’s the limit. You can even pre-load in your trading journal and then interrogate it on the move.

And with the new ‘memory mode’, the more you use it, the more it learns.

My Prompt

A “prompt” I like to use is this:

“I’m going to share some cluttered thoughts about my trading, I want you to listen, declutter, and create a list of the main points raised. Then I want you to suggest a short action plan to tackle each based on what you know about me and my trading style.”

You can obviously come up with your own.

I know it sounds weird, but it’s useful technology and you know I’m super bullish on this trend for traders…

So, the next time you feel glued to the screen and caught in the mental churn, try stepping away.

Walk, talk, and get some space.

You might be surprised at the fresh perspective it gives you.
