One Word for the Year
Simplify Your Focus and Transform Your Year
A few years ago, I was listening to an (almost) billionaire talk about how he frames the new year, and it stuck with me ever since…
You see, we can all get lost in a list of tasks, resolutions, and goals. It’s easy to get sidetracked or caught up in the chaos of life.
But here’s the neat trick he used to combat that:
ONE WORD
Each year, come up with one word or short phrase that you want to represent you for the year.
Think of words or phrases like:
- Relentless
- Healthy
- Beast mode
- Aggressive
- Family man
- Athlete
- Limitless
- Bold
- Unstoppable
- Grateful
- Intentional
- Patient
Pick something that instantly conjures up the image of who you want to become in your mind.
You can then use this word or phrase as a quick reminder to align your decisions with your bigger goals.
To Dig Deeper
Let’s say improving your health is your focus this year. You want to:
- Quit some vices
- Drop a few pounds of fat
- Gain muscle
- Clean up your diet
- Run a marathon
Instead of overthinking all those goals, you could simplify everything into one word: “Healthy.”
That single word triggers all those smaller goals in your mind, helping you make better decisions and, over time, create a new identity.
In Trading
Your word might be:
- Disciplined – A reminder to stick to your plan no matter what.
- Focused – To keep your attention on what really matters.
- Patient – if you want to slow things down.
You get the idea…
What would your word for 2025 be?
