Pay The Market’s Fee
The market’s tuition must be paid - you choose the price.
I was recently flicking through a copy of “The Playbook” by Mike Bellafiore
I’ve had this book for ten years now, and always enjoy picking it up and re-reading a chapter or two.
Anyway, in the chapter “GMan: Trading is not easy”, Mike spent several pages talking about trader training and the market’s tuition.
The book’s well worth a read BTW if you don’t have a copy.
But that chapter got me thinking…
Bad news:
There’s no free tuition in trading.
Good news:
You can choose the fee.
Huh?
You’re going to pay one way or another.
With a combo of time + money.
Common mistakes that result in a high time or money fee:
- A new inconsistent trader piling a load of money into an account
- Not prepared to spend on decent trader training
- Not seeking out peers and mentors
- Not learning from your mistakes
The trick is to get to a point of trading competency and consistency by spending the least amount of time and money.
I believe you need 3 things:
- A modest account size. Not too big that it hurts if you lose, but not so small that you don’t feel the pressure of managing real risk capital.
- A training program. You need a resource to help you grow. Traders often skimp a bit on this. “I can get all this for free” – sure there’s loads of free stuff, but that can’t replace well-structured proper trader training. (And that’s coming from someone who has produced thousands of YouTube videos for traders! I know they can only do so much…)
- A support network. There’s just no need to tackle it on your own these days. Dump social media and find your trading tribe. There are so many traders out there who are going through the same things as you. You just need to find them.
If you can get the optimal recipe then it will take you far less time and much less money to hit your goals.
Now, of course, I created Traders Mastermind to solve this exact problem for traders.
Getting you from A to B in the quickest time possible, by spending the least amount on market tuition.
But I also know there are many other great services out there, you need to find one that suits you and your style of learning and trading…
If you prefer to be taught one particular method or be in a chat room all day then something like Investors Underground or Simpler Trading might be better for you. (No affiliation or recommendation, I just know they have been around a while.)
Find your tribe wherever that may be and the journey becomes way more fun!
